Distance runner Mason Ferlic weighs in on the challenging steeplechase event, guiding younger runners in the program and the major differences between the indoor/outdoor season.
Up this week for the Wolverines is the UVA Challenge, which is slated for Friday and Saturday (April 17-18) on the campus of the University of Virginia.
U-M won event titles in the 3,000m steeplechase (Austin Benoit), pole vault (Michael Hovater) and 4x100m relay (Codie Nolan, John Spooney, Khoury Crenshaw, Chris Maye) in a two-day tri-meet against Cal and Virginia.
U-M will travel to Berkeley, California, Saturday (April 4) for a tri-meet with the Cal Golden Bears and University of Virginia Cavaliers, while select distance runners will compete Friday (April 3) in the Stanford Invite.
Cody Riffle and Grant Cartwright had the second- and 10th-best marks, respectively, in the outdoor shot put in program history at the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge, where the Big Ten prevailed.
